Destination Judo goes from strength to strength We are delighted to announce the opening of 3 new clubs. You can now find Destination Judo in Bo’ness (Mondays), Lochgelly (Tuesdays) and, as of 28th February, in Bathgate (Thursdays). See the classes page website for more details. Squad Classes We have squad classes in Cowdenbeath, Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline and Blackhall (Edinburgh) and, once Bathgate is established, we’ll also be looking to set up a squad for West Lothian. We are introducing new gold, silver and bronze squad badges and are also working on new track suits for all squad members. We’ve also started a ‘Supersquad’ to allow all squad members to get together on a regular basis to practice and to hone their competitive skills. We meet monthly and rotate around different venues. Our first practice, was at the prestigious National Judo Dojo at Ratho. Gradings In February we held our gradings. And, for the very first time, we introduced a brand new belt system for yellow and red Mons. This new idea, proposed by Destination Judo, will improve motivation of young judo players, by giving them new belts every time they advance through 1st to 6th Mon. All clubs were pleased to welcome family and friends along to see the presentation of belts and certificates. Cheeky Monkeys In March we will again be undertaking the Cheeky Monkey Challenge to raise money for children with leukaemia. We did this very successfully two years ago – great fun and for a good cause. Watch this space for more detail. Fife Judo Festival To coincide with Sports Relief, Destination Judo and Active Schools Fife will be running a ‘Mix & Match’ judo event. This will be a family friendly day where children from all over Fife will come together to do judo. The emphasis during the day will be very much on participation and fun – for most of the children this will be their first experience of a judo tournament. The event is invitation only. Children will work in teams and there will be medals for all participants. We’ll also have some sports based activities to do our bit for Sports Relief and all children will receive an activity pack courtesy of Active Schools. Scottish Mini Mons Finally, we hope to see lots of Destination Judo children competing at the forthcoming Scottish Mini-Mons on 22nd March. Good luck to all of you who take part.
